HealthIn the field of health, the World Help Fund supports organizations which commit themselves to developing medicines and new treatment methods which can heal people with life-threatening diseases.

Annually thousands of people die as a result of a disease for which good medicines do not exist. To reduce this number as much as possible many new medicines and treatment methods need to be developed for the short term.
The World Help Fund supports organizations which commit themselves in this area. Diseases that need many new medicines and research are cancer, AIDS, heart and kidney diseases, MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and other life-threatening diseases.

The World Help Fund regularly examines which organizations provide the largest contributions to heal these diseases. The following organizations are momentarily supported by the World Help Fund:

 

    To reduce the number of people that annually dies due to life-threatening diseases as much as possible, the World Help Fund supports organizations that make a contribution to the following activities.

     

    Activities in the field of cancer

    • Financing scientific cancer research and training, to improve the life expectancies for cancer patients effectively.
    • Obtaining knowledge which is necessary to limit the risk for cancer.
    • Supporting patient associations, giving information and asking for attention for cancer patients, cancer and cancer-control.

     

    Activities in the field of kidney diseases

    • Limiting the number of new dialysis patients by tracing and treating people with starting kidney damage in an early stage. In this way further setback and eventually dialysis is postponed or is even prevented.
    • Stimulating scientific study into what causes kidney diseases and how to prevent and cure it.
    • Registering potential kidney donors as many as possible by giving information about organ donation and by specific lobby.

     

    Activities in the field of heart diseases

    • Structural improving the care for heart patients, by giving good information to patients and family members, to able individuals to improve their personal situation.
    • Bringing a healthy life style under the attention of the public, because this is the most effective manner to prevent heart diseases.
    • Conducting scientific research to retrieve the exact cause of heart diseases. Moreover scientific research produces new treatment which must be proved in practice.

     

    Activities in the field of AIDS

    • Conducting scientific research to the effectiveness of alternating use of combination therapies. This must bring help for patients who are by resistance no longer treatable.
    • Setting up and coordinating programs in a justified and durable manner to treat people with HIV/AIDS in developing counties.
    • Stimulating vaccine research, because an Aids-vaccine is the most important way to stop the spreading of HIV.

     

    Activities in the field of MS (Multiple Sclerosis)

    • Searching for heritable factors which play a role in the sensitivity for the occurring of Multiple Sclerosis.
    • Conducting scientific research to MS to make a specific search for medicines and treating methods possible.
    • Obtaining more knowledge about the processes which play a role in the occurring and developing of MS. This concerns among others a study into the immune system and into the role of damages of the Myeline and of the nerve fibers in the occurring of MS complaints.
    • Developing new methods to accelerate the development of new therapies to cure MS and to reduce the costs of the treatment.
